Division of Mine Permits

ATTENTION: on January 18, 2018 the Division of Mine Permits published
RAM 165 dealing with Statutory and Regulation Changes pertaining to Shadow Areas. In order to implement the statutory change under HB 234, amendments to the Kentucky Administrative Regulations (KAR) in
Chapter 405 were made. Changes have also been made to the MPA-00,
MPA-03, MPA-06 and MPA-09 which can be downloaded from the
Division of Mine Permits Electronic forms website. The most current version of the Mine Permit Applications is 11.0.

The goal of the Division of Mine Permits is to protect human health and the environment from adverse effects of coal mining and reclamation operations. This is accomplished by evaluating mining and reclamation plans and issuing permits to ensure that coal mining operations meet the performance standards established under the federal Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) of 1977.
